After women’s day I got the ping to make an extensive list of my favourite books about, for, celebrating and empowering women.
I have been holding myself back from sharing too many books at once (or sharing more of myself/my knowledge in general but we don’t do this anymore). This is why I’ve been sharing a book a month in my ‘Collection’, were I’d also share a page to get a better glimpse of them. But here we go now, sharing a whole thread here that you can refer back to anytime.
These books have given me so incredibly much, they moved me deeply, made me cry, made my body light up and most importantly they keep inspiring me to create safe spaces for women where they can rest, remember their power, own it and nurture it.
The Great Cosmic Mother
Starting off with this book diving into the history of matriarchy, the role of women in the development of our culture, religion and so much more. It’s one of the books I love to read from at my retreats held for women.
Women Who Run with the Wolves
This classic took me years to get through, and is by my side ever since to reread certain chapters time and time again. A book full of poetic symbols, fairy tales depicted form a psychologist’s perspective.
Untamed
I’ve engulfed this book in a couple of sweet summer days a few years back. Truly couldn’t put it down. This book deserves all the praise it gets. Moving, motivating, inspiring. It brings you back to your truth.
Pussy, a Reclamation
Ok, this book gets my body to light up every single time I reread bits of it. It awakens your inner radiance, brings you back to your pleasure, joy and radiance. Read it, share it, buy it for your sisters. We need more women owning the pleasure our bodies are wired for.
Healing Love
Speaking of pleasure… This was the book I handed to my last lover before I even allowed him to touch me! A Daoist approach to sexuality, cultivating sexual energy and using it for healing. It has lengthly descriptions of exercises specifically for women as well as for couples… All I can say is, read it, practice and enjoy;)
The Magdalene Manuscript
I love to refer to this book in my teachings. It has 3 parts - the first tells the story of Mary Magdalene and Yeshua, the second talks about practices of inner alchemy in many different traditions, then the third is a personal story of one of the writers.
The Woman in the Shaman’s Body
This book explores the role of women in healing traditions. A must read for women working with any healing modality, especially if specialised in women.
Braiding Sweetgrass
Another classic. This book will open up that connection to Mother Nature within that’s lingering in us all at all times, but we tend to not feel into it.
The Radiance Sutras
A collection of my favourite poems of all times. This is the book I would read before going to sleep to connect to my body, the beauty of this world and my senses.
My Body
A fresh new book, a bit different from the others on the list, but I felt like including it as Emrata shares many stories that a lot of women can relate to. I would actually love for men to read this book as well :)
.
I can already think of more books to add… But this is what I have for you for now :) I truly hope these books will be as life changing for you as they have been for me!
This whole thread made me wonder… It might be time to start a book club ;)
I also can’t wait to bring some of these to the upcoming retreats and spark some conversations on these topics!
Love,
Zsófi
